110 🚀 Before You Start the Next Project, Do This...

Hey Reader,

The past few weeks have been a blur:

  • A major go-live
  • That quiet calm after the storm

And now… back into the rhythm

This week, I officially closed out phase one of our Irwin Mitchell project and started onboarding a new client.

New contract. New scope. New team. New pressures.

But before I rushed ahead, I had to pause.

Because here’s the truth:

It’s easy to launch.

It’s harder to look back and really learn.

Why I Always Build in a Wrap-Up

I scheduled a proper phase wrap-up.

Everyone involved was invited, both client and internal teams.

We went round the room and talked openly:

  • What went well?
  • What didn’t land as well as we hoped?
  • What do we want to do differently next time?

No pressure. Just honesty.

That short session gave me so much to take forward, not just into phase two of this project, but into the brand new project I’m starting now.

Reflection Isn’t Fluff. It’s fuel.

You don’t need a big post-mortem.

But you do need a moment to pause and ask:

  • What lessons am I carrying into this next phase?
  • Where did we over-deliver and why?
  • What could I have planned for sooner?

This is where growth happens.

Not just delivery. Development.

And as you take on more, especially across multiple projects, it becomes even more critical to learn out loud, and then apply that learning fast.

Last Week for Me Looked Like

  • Wrap-up session with the Irwin Mitchell team
  • Reviewing lessons learned and adjusting our phase two setup
  • Onboarding a new client: sorting contracts, MSAs, resourcing
  • Laying the foundations for a strong Q1

It’s a lot, but it’s purposeful.

Because every successful phase two starts with a clear close to phase one.

If you’re transitioning between projects right now, take a second.

Reflect. Assess. Capture what matters.

Your future self (and your next project) will thank you.

Until next week,

Yomi
