133 🚀 Week 2: Pick Your Idea | The 90-Day Build Challenge

Hey Reader,

Week 2. If you picked your tool last week and had that first conversation, you're exactly on track.

This week's job: pick the actual idea.

Here's the trap most people fall into at this stage.

They wait for the idea that feels big enough to justify the effort.

A proper business. Something that could really go somewhere.

That instinct kills more challenges than lack of time ever does, because "big enough" is a moving target that never arrives.

Don't pick the best idea.

Pick the smallest one you'd actually be proud to finish.

A few ways to find it, if nothing's obvious yet:

  1. Look back at your own week. What's a small, annoying, repetitive thing you or someone near you deals with that a simple tool could fix? The World Cup app started exactly there, a gap I noticed, not a grand plan.
  2. Ask your AI tool directly. Something like "I'm a [your role or area of expertise] with roughly [your bandwidth audit number] hours a week. Here's what I'm curious about... what small tools or projects could I realistically build in 90 days?" Let it throw out options. You're not obligated to take any of them, you're just widening the field.
  3. Revisit last week's icebreaker conversation. If you asked what you could build, look back at what came up. Something probably stuck with you even if you brushed past it at the time.

The test for whether an idea is right for this challenge is that you can describe what "done" looks like in one sentence. If you can't yet, it's too vague. Narrow it until you can.

Would you be able to show a rough version of it to one person in two weeks? If the honest answer is no, it's too big for a first project. Scope it down.

Does building it require someone else's permission, budget, or approval? If yes, that's not a 90-day challenge project.

Pick something you can move on alone.

What "done" looks like for week 2:

  • You've got one idea, written down in a sentence. Not perfect. Just picked.
  • Post it in the community. Not to be judged, just to make it real by saying it out loud to someone other than yourself.

Week 3 is picking how you'll actually build it, and I promise it's simpler than it sounds.

See you then.
